Climate change is not a political issue! It is a survival issue. Increases in hot temperatures at the Earth’s surface can be detrimental to our planet’s life in many ways. An increase in climate causes glaciers and ice sheets to melt at higher rates and lets wildfires happen more frequently. Our glaciers play an essential role in regulating the Earth’s temperature. As the sea level rises from glacier shrinkage, it increases floods in the U.S coastline. Our oceans are becoming more acidic. Primarily, greenhouse gases trap heat from deforestation, fossil fuel combustion, etc. which is part of the bigger picture of humans causing climate warming. During the Industrial Era, the concentration of carbon dioxide increased by 40%. There is so much carbon dioxide in our atmosphere; it’s difficult for natural processes like plants to take action and make much of a difference, which is why we need to come in and help.

The amount of pollution in the world is frightening. Beginning with air pollution, water pollution, solid waste pollution, and noise pollution. This impurity can is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, gases, disposing chemicals, throwing trash in our water or street, substantial amounts of carbon dioxide, etc. During our worldwide Covid-19 lockdown, we have seen pollution settle and make visible changes to the eye. For example, The Italy Canal; before lockdown, the water was grimy, and no one could look to the bottom of the thick water in the canals due to the sediment that was pushed up by boats. As cases increased in Italy and more people stayed home, and there was less tourism, the water started clearing up as the sediment lays on the bottom of the canals. The canals haven’t been that clear since 60 years ago. And this only happened because they were in lockdown for a few months. This lockdown brought back the dolphins and geese to Italy, and the fish in the water became more visible. This lockdown gave the earth a chance to start healing, but as businesses start to open and people start going back to work, all this progress will be gone. It’s Major corporations that pollute our planet and are not taken accountable. Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestlé, Danone, Mondelez International, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Perfetti van, Melle, Mars Incorporated, Colgate-Palmolive. These are some major companies that contribute to our Eight million metric tons of garbage in the ocean. It could compare to 57,000 whales a year, which is 17.6 billion pounds of waste. If you would like to learn more about companies that harm our planet, click the websites I have listed. We have to be part of the change; we can have more power then these major companies if we unite. Be part of the change and stand up to these companies by pressing the Take Action Bar to the screen’s right.

More than 700 species face extinction today due to climate change. Polar bears are one of the animals being affected by today’s climate. They live in 19 different regions extending across the Arctic regions of Canada, Greenland/Denmark, Norway, Russian, and the United States. In all 19 regions, there has been ice loss affecting the lives of polar bears. In fact, the temperatures in the Arctic are rising twice as fast as global temperatures. As sea ice breaks, polar bears spend their energy trying to get back on their feet to nearby land. That energy could be crucial for finding food. Polar bears used the extended land of sea ice as a way to target their prey, seals. Temperature change causes earlier ice retreats in the spring and forming later in the winter. This is a big problem for our polar bears as they face a more prolonged time starving and losing energy rather than hunting for food. Some might say polar bears can adapt to these changes. But they cannot if their habitat is changing too fast, causing food stress to these animals letting population size decline.
